Our print standards, in writing

Every job we make meets the same written standard, whoever in our team picks it up. This page sets out what we promise, what our materials are, how we check the work, and where the limits are.

Six things we promise on every job

  • Nothing is made until you approve a proof

You see your job laid out at its real size, with the cut line, bleed and measurements marked, before anything is printed. A proof of several files is approved as a whole.

  • Your files are checked before they print

Every file is checked for size, bleed, resolution, safe area, fonts and colour. If something will print badly, we tell you first.

  • Two rounds of design changes included

When we design for you, two rounds of changes are part of the price. If you need more, we quote the extra time before doing it.

  • Every order is checked by hand

Before you see it, your order is counted and checked against the approved proof: garments piece by piece, vinyl for colour and size, embroidery for stitching and placement.

  • An honest ready date

We give you an estimated ready date worked out from the steps your job actually takes. Once you accept your estimate, that date is locked in.

  • If it's not right, we make it right

If something is faulty or doesn't match the proof you approved, tell us within 7 days and we'll fix it. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply as well: a major problem means a refund or replacement, a minor one a free repair.7

How a job moves through our hands

Two of these steps are gates: the job doesn't move on until they're passed. One is yours, the other is ours.

  1. You

    Send your files.

Upload your own artwork, or have us design it.

  2. Automatic

    File check.

Size, bleed, resolution, safe area, fonts and colour.

  3. Us

    Proof.

Real size, cut line and measurements marked.

  4. Your gate

    You approve.

Every file, every tick box. Nothing is made before this.

  5. Us

    Made.

On the materials set out below.

  6. Our gate

    Checked by hand.

Counted and checked against your proof.

  7. You

    Ready.

Picked up or sent, with a care guide for what you bought.

What print-ready means

Most printing problems start in the file. These are the standards we check every file against, and the ones we work to when we design for you.

Garments

Most of the tees, hoodies, polos and totes we print are AS Colour. We chose them because of what stands behind each blank, not only how they feel.

A stack of undyed cotton jersey fabric
  • TestedOEKO-TEX Standard 100 on every AS Colour factory. Every component, down to the thread and buttons, is tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances, and the certificate is renewed every year.1
  • AuditedEvery factory visited and audited against AS Colour's code of conduct and the amfori BSCI code of conduct for working conditions.2
  • SourcedBetter Cotton member. Better Cotton is bought by mass balance, so the cotton in one shirt can't be traced to one farm. The same volume is grown to the standard.3
  • Packed99% plastic-free supply chain. Garments aren't bagged one by one.
  • RecycledRecycled polyester in the Stencil Hood, Relax Crew and Relax Hood (80% cotton, 20% GRS-certified recycled polyester).

A few garments, such as jackets and knitted beanies, come from other makers, and the points above don't cover those. Your quote always says what each garment is, and we'll tell you what it's made from if you ask.

Print sizes, to scale

Your design is printed as a transfer and pressed on at 140°C. These are our standard print areas, fitted to each garment's real size so a small shirt and a large one both look right.

Signs, banners and vinyl

Outdoor life is the question we're asked most. Here is what to expect before fading becomes noticeable in full-time outdoor use. Sun, salt air and how a sign faces all change it, so treat these as typical figures rather than a guarantee.

Typical outdoor life before noticeable fading. Pull-up banners are made for indoor use.
  • CutCut vinyl lettering is cut from Avery Dennison 700 Premium Film, in 110 colours, gloss or matte. Avery rates it for up to 7 years outdoors in colour and 8 in black or white, in mild conditions on an upright surface.6 Every piece is weeded and checked for colour and size.
  • SuppliedMasked with paper application tape, so your lettering goes up in one piece, exactly as spaced on the proof.
  • Two gradesPrinted vinyl and stickers come in two grades. Standard is monomeric film, rated for 1 to 2 years outdoors. Premium is polymeric film, rated for about 3 years, and a laminate adds about another year. Vehicles always get Premium with a gloss laminate.
  • InksVinyl banners and pull-ups are printed with water-based HP Latex inks, certified UL GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions.4 Gold is the level set for schools and healthcare buildings.5
  • FinishBanners have clear eyelets that won't rust. Store them rolled, never folded.

Colour, honestly

Screens glow and paper reflects, so no printer can promise that a colour on your monitor will look the same on a sign. Send us your brand colour codes and we'll tell you before printing if a colour is likely to shift. If an exact match to a Pantone or a physical sample matters, we agree it in writing first, so you know exactly what you're getting.

No greenwash, no fine print

Some claims sound good and can't be checked. These are the ones you won't see from us, on a quote or on this website, and what we say instead.

We won't sayWhat we say instead
  • Eco-friendlyToo vague to check. We'd rather name the standard, like OEKO-TEX Standard 100 or GREENGUARD Gold, and link to it.
  • BSCI certifiedamfori says it plainly: BSCI "is not a qualification or certification system".2 It's a code of conduct with factory audits, so that's how we describe it.
  • Guaranteed by FridayWe give an estimated ready date, worked out from the real steps of your job, and lock it in when you accept.
  • Exact colour matchOnly when we've agreed it in writing, against a Pantone or a sample you give us.
  • Lasts foreverEverything outdoors fades in the end. We give you typical figures for each material instead.
