Cut Vinyl Lettering: When Stickers Won't Cut It

Cut vinyl lettering is one of the oldest and cleanest signage techniques. No print, no background - just solid-colour letters and shapes applied directly to a surface.

Cut vinyl lettering is one of the oldest and cleanest signage techniques. No print, no background - just solid-colour letters and shapes applied directly to a surface. It looks sharp, lasts for years, and suits applications where printed stickers or graphics would look wrong.

What It Is

Cut vinyl is computer-cut from rolls of solid-coloured vinyl film. Each letter, number, or shape is individually cut and weeded (the background removed), then transferred to the surface using application tape. The result is text and graphics that appear painted onto the surface - no visible edges, no background rectangle, no sticker look.

Where It Works Best

Shopfront glass. Business name, trading hours, contact details, and regulatory information. Clean, legible, and professional. Frosted vinyl lettering on glass is a particularly refined option that provides privacy while maintaining a premium look.

Vehicle doors and panels. Business name and phone number in a single colour on car doors, caravans, or trailer sides. Cut vinyl on vehicles is cleaner than printed graphics for simple text applications.

Walls and surfaces. Office branding, inspirational quotes in reception areas, room labels, and wayfinding text. Applied directly to painted walls, the letters look like they've been professionally hand-painted.

Boats and watercraft. Registration numbers, vessel names, and hull graphics. Marine-grade vinyl withstands salt water, UV, and constant moisture.

When Printed Graphics Are Better

Cut vinyl is single-colour per layer. If your logo has gradients, photographs, detailed illustrations, or more than two or three colours, a printed graphic is the better option. Printed stickers and decals from window graphics or die-cut stickers handle full colour and complex artwork that cut vinyl can't reproduce.

Colour and Material Options

We stock over 80 vinyl colours including matte, gloss, metallic, reflective, and fluorescent options. Standard vinyl lasts 5 to 7 years outdoors. Premium cast vinyl conforms to curves and complex surfaces and lasts 7 to 10 years.

Cost

Cut vinyl lettering is priced by size and complexity. Simple door text starts from around $85. Larger shopfront lettering or vehicle text scales based on the linear length and number of characters. It's one of the most cost-effective forms of permanent signage.
